This project was undertaken as the Architects own home. Purchased in 2016, Josiah was lucky to come across this beautiful neighborhood Church that had been sitting empty for several years and had fallen into disrepair. He was able to leverage his architectural skill set to perform a full structural rehab and revitalize a building that would have otherwise been demolished into a new home that will stand proudly for another 100 years as it has for the past 100 years. 'I fell in love with the building on my first visit and knew I had to respect this beautiful space that had been such an important part of the neighborhood and the local history". The design strategy was to keep the space open and full of light like it always had been, respecting the original use and details while inserting a modern and livable home into it. The new construction is designed with a contemporary ethos, while the old architecture is respected and celebrated. The architect took care to keep the building as community facing as possible, hosting dinners, art and music events, and community celebrations as often as possible in order to honor the buildings past as a place of gathering and celebration.
